Voting has begun on the proposed new constitution from the Alumni Governance Task Force, as well as on the four amendments to the current constitution that were proposed by petition (requiring 1 percent of the alumni body to sign for each). The Executive Committee of the Association has issued a recommendation of how to vote to all alumni. Not surprisingly, their recommendation is for alumni to vote in favor of the AGTF proposal; interestingly enough, they have also recommended voting against all four petition amendments.

The College had its most lucrative fundraising year ever with $160.3 million in charitable gifts at the end of the fiscal year on June 30. The Campaign for the Dartmouth Experience and an increase in donations from alumni and friends drove a 51 percent increase over funds raised in 2005 and a third greater than the previous fundraising record of $118 million in 2004. A total of 26,750 donors contributed and almost 51 percent of College alumni contributed to the Dartmouth College Fund, raising $30.7 million in unrestricted gifts.

In the ongoing turmoil over the passage of the proposed Association of Alumni constitution, two major conflicting groups with vastly different structures and campaign tactics have emerged -- Supporters for a Democratic Dartmouth, which opposes the constitution and Dartmouth Alumni for Common Sense, which supports it.

All freshmen have now moved into their residence halls after a five-day delay in obtaining occupancy permits for three of the six buildings in the McLaughlin residence hall cluster forced many students returning from their Dartmouth Outing Club Trips to temporarily move into other residence halls.

A week after Harvard University's landmark decision to eliminate its early admissions program in the fall of 2007, Princeton University announced Monday that it will follow suit in abandoning early admission. Although both Harvard and Princeton made their announcements in the hope that other institutions will follow their lead, Dartmouth does not plan to alter its early decision program in the near future.

"I felt such an obligation not to make this Convocation speech the typical 'welcome to Dartmouth, you're a great class' speech. I really, really wanted to challenge the Class of 2010 to get involved in these issues that are already going on on campus," Andreadis said in an interview with The Dartmouth.

This high-profile move comes after J.B. Daukas, an architect of the proposed constitution, twice sought the input of the three trustees in the months between the release of the final draft of the proposed constitution and the deadline after which the proposal could not be changed. None of the three -- all of whom have vehemently opposed the proposal -- took Daukas up on his offer.

For the Spring 2007 Olympus Fashion Week, both the glitterati and the paparazzi descended onto Manhattan from September 8 to 15, as designers sent models down the runway in a variety of looks that ranged from beautifully wearable to painfully out-there. Thanks to magazines, the internet, and "Project Runway," fashion is ostensibly more accessible to the public outside the Bryant Park Tents. Here are some highlights.

Prior to the days of scrappy, uncharismatic leading men who approach the film industry with a blas, seen-it-all nonchalance, in order to succeed in Hollywood one had to be a genuine movie star. This required, among other things, enigmatic looks, a suave sensuality, and a coveted contract from one of the major movie studios. Although there were the Clark Gables and Rita Hayworths, there were hundreds more actors who walked the fine line between anonymity and unfulfilling minor celebrity. "Hollywoodland" is a stunning example of one such man and the unexplained details of his suspicious death.

Tiger -- in addition to earning eight figures on the PGA Tour money list each year despite playing only the majors and when one of his sponsors, Buick, asks him, politely, to show up to its tournaments -- rakes in a pile of money each year by loaning his name to EA Sports. I don't have a problem with Tiger's video-game-self bombing it 350 yards down the middle every time, or an issue with Tiger Vision making every putt on the green a tap-in. What bothers me is that he appears to be playing that game on TV every weekend.
