The Dartmouth lightweight men's crew team sent 20 rowers to Princeton on Sunday to race in Eights and Fours. The best Fours finish for the Big Green in the Princeton Chase was second behind Yale.

While Dartmouth hosted a variety of Homecoming sporting events this weekend, the Big Green men's tennis team traveled to West Point, N.Y. to compete in the Army Invitational. There the team captured three of four consolation singles titles.

Halloween is here, and presidential candidates are searching for the perfect costume to attract voters. Although politicians are constantly masked and fake, Halloween is a special time for them -- they get to choose an outfit that is totally contrary to their beliefs rather than one that just muddles them. To help the candidates, and the democratic system in general, I have come up with a couple ideas for each of the contenders.

As oppressive readings and problem sets begin to absorb our focus, the academic pressures of Dartmouth become slightly like an enslaving yoke, which, if we are not watchful, can uproot us from the cosmos of an interrelated world into an intellectual vacuum. It appears that there is no time to ponder the rest of the world, the world without midterms, study groups and all the other woes of an Ivy League college. And progressively the "college on the hill" becomes the "college of the abyss." Dartmouth, there are events in other countries that are weaving a painful, marred and even sanguinary history, to which we owe acknowledgement, if not activism.

This winter, the Hood Museum of Art will welcome its new director, Derrick Cartwright, to the Dartmouth campus. Cartwright will finish up his tenure as Director of the Muse d' Art Amricain in Giverny, France, and begin his duties as Hood Director in January 2001.
