Bored at Baker shut down by founder

Bored at Baker, a messaging board created by Jonathan Pappas – known online by the pseudonym Jae Daemon – that gave Dartmouth students the ability to post and interact anonymously, has been shut down in conjunction with the entire “Bored At” network.

Aleskie named Hopkins Center director

Mary Lou Aleskie, the executive director of the International Festival of Arts and Ideas in New Haven, Connecticut, will be the next director of the Hopkins Center. She will assume the position in the spring.

Dartmouth Law Journal partners with LSAT prep firm

The Dartmouth Law Journal will be partnering with test preparation firm TestMasters to hold a free mock Law School Admission Test this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Carson L01, which holds about 50 students. TestMasters instructor Maya Kieffer will oversee the exam and review some of the test’s more difficult questions after the examination has concluded.

Sleuth of bears sighted near School Street and West Wheelock Street

The fall term has not only brought with it the changing color of the leaves, but also an increased number of black bear sightings around campus — specifically a large female bear with three cubs.

Morton residents adjust after fire destroys belongings

Early Saturday morning, Abigail Buckley ’19 and Monika Gabriele ’19, two members of a quad on the third floor of Morton Hall, received a call from one of their roommates informing them that their building was on fire. The pair stayed up together until 3 a.m., waiting not only for firefighters to put out the blaze but also any update from the College.

Corpse flower to bloom soon

The College’s resident “corpse flower,” known as Morphy, is expected to bloom at the end of this week for the first time since July 2011. Housed in the greenhouse atop the Class of 1978 Life Sciences Center, the 13-year-old specimen of Amorphophallus titanum has only bloomed one other time throughout its life. The flower will bloom for two to three days.
