With the ever-growing population of Spanish speakers in the United States, the last 10 years in particular have seen an increase in Hispanic, and predominantly Latin, culture, from the Macarena to Ricky Martin.

The dark comedy "Strangers with Candy," much as its title would indicate, is exactly that television show that parents wish their children would never find.

My theory that the Scottish will inherit the world is only furthered by the fact that yet another fine rock band has emerged from the land of sheep and beer.

Senior Anne Hunt recently made her entrance into the world of post-graduate academia -- months before even graduating from college.

For Jenn Buck, traveling in the Middle East is nothing new. Buck, staff reporter and photographer for The Dartmouth, grew up in the desert of Saudi Arabia.

Put on those Danskos, GoreTex and diamond studs -- it's time for The Dartmouth to examine two of northern New England's yuppiest towns: Connecticut River neighbors Hanover, N.H., and Norwich, Vt.

Students held campaign signs and ferried to and from the polls at Hanover High School during the day Tuesday, but by 8 p.m., a lull had swept the campus. Instead of huddling around televisions in the Collis Center, Thayer Dining Hall lobby or dorm common rooms, most students seemed to go about their routine nighttime business and paid little heed to the election's outcome.

In France, it's terribly taboo to link a candidate's governing ability to any aspect of his personal life. Wind of the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky scandal didn't even raise an eyebrow there -- except to prompt questions on why Americans cared so much about what the president did in his leisure time.

Ruben Studdard may have won the hearts and votes of millions of television viewers during the second season of "American Idol," but that success has yet to translate to the recording studio. His debut album, "Soulful," has potential, but is too divided and lacks a unifying feel or theme. In an R&B world dominated by R. Kelly, P. Diddy and Maxwell, good vocals and a disjointed album won't save you.

In the radio world of mass-produced, cookie cutter male singer/songwriters, it's necessary to do something pretty spectacular in order to stand apart from the crowd. Listening to the radio these days, one might conclude that basically anyone who can play a guitar and carry a tune is radio-worthy, but to become a timeless singer/songwriter like Bob Dylan, Nick Drake or Richard Thompson it takes a great deal more talent than proclaiming that someone's body is a wonderland.

Wednesday night, Hartman Recital Hall was not only a room full of 20-some instrumentalists, but also a room full of intensity, creativity and energy. Excitement and concentration blanketed the recital hall as the Barbary Coast practiced for their big show this Saturday with renowned tenor saxophonist and guest director for the week, John Stubblefield.

Belle and Sebastian's fifth album, "Dear Catastrophe Waitress," is the band's attempt to emerge from the black hole to which they had been relegated by the most hardcore of indie rock critics after the disappointments of their third and fourth albums, "The Boy with the Arab Strap" and "Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant."

Saturday night was ripe with a host of entertainment options for sophomore summer parents' weekend. Between student performing groups and professional performing groups, there was plenty to choose from.

Like many others, you may feel the need for some sort of attitude transition from the bacchanalia that was Tubestock to the somewhat more sedate time approaching -- Parents' weekend. What better way to make this shift to wholesome family fun than by taking a trip to see the circus?

There are those who have been reluctant to see "Bend It Like Beckham," because they are a little dubious of the quality of the film. Any combination of David Beckham and teenage girls seems destined for failure. Not to mention the fact that the last movie made about soccer, "The Big Green" was nothing more than a cheap rip-off of"'The Mighty Ducks."

It's shows like these that make me rue the day I stopped playing the piano.

He flies through the night, repairing the damaged and helping students in need. No, he is not Superman. He is Shawn Buckman of the Troubleshooters. Buckman and the rest of the crew -- there are seven of them -- are the ones who take over the duties of Facilities Operations and Management after hours.
