This weekend, as we make our last Dartmouth memories as undergraduates, I have been thinking back to one of my first. On Sept. 6, 2005, having spent three days in the woods as the only guy on my nature photography DOC trip, I arrived at the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge. After a dinner of alphabet soup and delicious vegetable lasagna, I settled down to listen to an energetic Dartmouth senior with curly pink and orange hair share some thoughts about himself and the College.

Amidst the greasy watermelons, chariot races and pie-throwing contest that herald the approaching Fieldstock weekend looms the scary realization that we've almost reached the end of the sophomore summer Slip 'n Slide (or the bottom of the sophomore summer Double Drop Falls, depending on which water toy metaphor you prefer). Trips down to the river are replaced by late-night study sessions; as finals approach, a stint at the library is no longer a Wednesday-evening taboo. As the summer evening sounds of Lone Pine Tavern drift upstairs, marking fall's return of Collis pasta, rising juniors are forced to confront the fact that college is halfway done.

The hearing has two key components, La Plata County District Attorney Craig Westberg told The Dartmouth in an interview. Asch proposed to certain members on the executive boards of the Afro-American Society and Native Americans at Dartmouth that the DEP editors be housed in Cutter-Shabazz Hall to serve as resources exclusively for black and Native American students. The idea emerged this past Winter term, but was most actively considered in late April in a series of discussions between Asch and representatives of the AAm and NAD, culminating in a heated April 24 meeting that resulted in the termination of the project.
