Town discussion of new field house postponed

The Hanover Town Planning Board postponed the hearing of the College’s application for a site plan review to construct a new athletic facility near Tyler Road, in the vicinity of Thompson Arena. The hearing will take place on June 7 instead. Planning Board chairwoman Judith Esmay said that a request was made by the project manager representing the College Board of Trustees to delay the hearing.

Stamps Scholars to present today

The Experiential Learning symposium, sponsored by the Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning, will take place this afternoon in Baker-Berry Library. The symposium will feature 2016-17 Stamps Scholars Julia Marino ’17, Andrew Nalani ’16, Connie Jiang ’17 and Patrick Saylor ’16, who will be sharing their work and experiences through the Stamps program.

Students create content for department sites through Content Corps

In January, the Student Content Corps officially launched as a new program with a two-fold goal. First proposed by web content strategist Sarah Maxell Crosby ’04, the Content Corps primarily generates content for the College’s academic departments’ websites, while giving students the chance to work on a web-based product.

Five new edX classes planned

On Tuesday Feb. 16, the College’s fourth DartmouthX course will launch officially on edX, welcoming more than 2,000 students into the classroom of “The American Renaissance: Classic Literature of the 19th Century.” Following the launch, five new DartmouthX courses will be created throughout 2016 and 2017: “Question Reality! Physics, Philosophy and the Limits of Knowledge,” “Free Will, Attention, Top-Down Causation and Consciousness in the Brain,” “John Milton’s ‘Paradise Lost’,” “Materials in Gear” and “Complementary and Alternative Medicine.”

Student Wellness Center shifts focus to prevention

As winter rolls on in Hanover, the Student Wellness Center remains a place of warmth and welcoming spirits. Renamed in the fall from the Student Health Promotion and Wellness Center to the Student Wellness Center, the wellness center looks forward to further enhancing its existing programs in the winter through creating a focus on preventative care, the director of the wellness center Caitlin Barthelmes said.

Dartmouth students to attend program in Japan

In fall 2016, two Dartmouth students will attend Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan through the Global Leadership Fellows Program for the first time. Students will participate in forums and seminars focused on Asia-Pacific issues in the broader global context and interact with fellow American and Japanese students while living in one of the largest cities in the world, art history professor Allen Hockley said.
