This week, The Dartmouth sat down with Yejadai Dunn ’16 to speak about her recent experience playing as part of the ATAVUS All-Stars Women’s Collegiate 15’s team, as well as her rugby career at Dartmouth. Dunn will be competing in USA Rugby’s National All-Star competition on August 11.

A self-described late bloomer, Kristen Rumley ’15 never imagined pitching in college. After initially starting her athletic career in soccer, Rumley switched over to softball at the age of seven and fell in love with a sport that would be deeply ingrained in the next decade and a half of her life.

Players on both the men’s and women’s tennis teams received a number of major accolades over the past week. The teams saw players placed on the first and second 2015 All-Ivy teams, and some also clinched Ivy League Player of the Year and Ivy League Rookie of the Year awards.

The No. 31 women’s tennis team beat Brown University (10-9, 3-3 Ivy) 4-3 at home on Friday and traveled to Yale University on Sunday, winning by the same 4-3 scoreline. The team’s last five conference matches have been decided 4-3, and the Big Green has been able to scrape out four of those five wins, with its only loss in the batch coming against Princeton University (12-8, 6-1 Ivy), which clinched the 2015 Ivy League title — its second straight — with a win over Cornell University on Sunday.

After a narrow loss to No. 56 Princeton University 4-3 on Saturday, the No. 37 women’s tennis team edged out the University of Pennsylvania 4-3 on Sunday on the back of a match-clinching three-set victory by Taylor Ng ’17 at No. 1 singles.The match against the Princeton team (11-7, 5-0 Ivy), which sits atop the Ivy League, proved close from the very beginning, as the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams fought tooth and nail in their matches.

After riding an 11-match win streak to an all-time program-high ranking of No. 18 earlier in the season, the women’s tennis team faltered over the spring interim and watched its ranking dip to No. 37 following three consecutive losses.

Over the spring interim, the women’s tennis team traveled to California and Texas to compete in five matches with teams from across the country. The Big Green brought home two wins — against the University of California at Irvine and the University of Denver — while falling to California State University at Northridge, Long Beach State University, and the University of Houston. The women now enter conference matches with a 13-3 record and ranked No. 29 in the nation.

The men’s tennis team traveled to Cambridge, Massachusetts over the weekend to compete in the ECAC Division I Indoor Tennis Championship. After defeating the No. 7 seed St. John’s University 4-3 and shutting out No. 6 seeded Brown University 4-0, the Big Green suffered a 5-0 loss against top-seeded Harvard University in the finals. The men are now 5-4 in their season.

The women’s tennis team traveled to Ithaca, New York this past weekend to compete in the three-day ECAC Division I Indoor Championship, bringing home its first ECAC Winter Championship title. Dartmouth entered the tournament seeded fourth, defeating No. 5 seeded Brown University and pulling upset wins over No. 1 seeded Princeton and No. 2 seeded Columbia Universities. The three victories extended the women’s stellar season record to 8-0.

The No. 46 Dartmouth men’s tennis experienced mixed results over the weekend, winning against the No. 66 University of Denver with a score of 5-2 before narrowly falling to No. 64 Indiana University, 4-3. The No. 63 women’s tennis team continued its hot start to the season, triumphing 5-2 over Brown University and 4-3 over Mississippi State University.

The men’s and women’s tennis teams started their winter indoor season off strong last Saturday, with both teams seeing successful results from their home matches. The Big Green men dominated on Saturday, defeating both the State University of New York at Buffalo and Bryant University with respective scores of 7-0 and 6-1. The women’s team clinched a hard-fought victory over Boston College, with a score of 4-3.
