Dartmouth Coach involved in crash on I-95

A Dartmouth Coach bus bound for New York City was involved in a crash on Interstate 95 on Wednesday morning. Nine people were injured, including three passengers on the coach, the Connecticut Post reported.

At around 10 a.m., a vehicle cut off a tractor-trailer in the center lane of the highway near exit 31 in Stratford, Conn., causing the truck driver to brake suddenly. The Dartmouth Coach driver following behind was also forced to brake, but a second bus, owned by a Quebec-based company, hit the back of the coach, pushing it into the tractor-trailer. A car following the second bus was also unable to stop in time and crashed into the bus. The accident backed up traffic as far as New Haven.

Dartmouth Coach operations director Ken Hunter said the three injured passengers were hospitalized as a precaution and would be released quickly. Twenty-three people were on the bus at the time. The drivers of the tractor-trailer, Quebec bus and crashed car were sent to the hospital.

Fifty-six passengers turned down medical care, officials said.

The drivers of the Quebec bus and the crashed car received infractions for following too closely. The remaining passengers on the Dartmouth Coach were driven to New York by a car service, WFSB Connecticut reported.
