The average undergraduate GPA at Dartmouth during the 2017-18 school year was 3.52, an increase from 3.42 during the 2007-08 academic year, according to an internal College report obtained by The Dartmouth.

Currently, the College’s counseling service sees a quarter of the total student body, according to Mark Reed, the director of the health service. 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and California senator Kamala Harris spoke to a standing-room-only crowd of around 400 Dartmouth students and Upper Valley residents Tuesday afternoon in Alumni Hall. Speaking on topics ranging from healthcare to racism to President Donald Trump’s foreign policy, Harris spoke about her policies and campaign for about 30 minutes before taking two questions from the audience.

Dartmouth Dining Services currently employs 46 temporary workers at wages below their unionized counterparts. This practice, which has been increasing in recent years, has drawn criticism from the Service Employees International Union, the largest union on Dartmouth’s campus with 477 members covering areas such as Safety and Security, custodial staff and DDS workers.

Last month, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aiming to promote free and open debate on college campuses. A group of conservative student activists, including Dartmouth College Republicans president Joshua Kauderer ’19, was invited to witness the signing of the order, which took place on March 21.

Both houses of the New Hampshire legislature have passed separate bills establishing a state minimum wage of $12 an hour by 2022. New Hampshire’s minimum wage defers to the federal standard of $7.25 an hour. This makes New Hampshire the only state in New England with a minimum wage under $10.

Physics and astronomy professor James LaBelle is an experimental space plasma physicist who has been at Dartmouth since 1989. LaBelle was appointed to the inaugural Lois L. Rodgers Professorship at Dartmouth in 2010, and holds degrees from Cornell University and Stanford University. He currently teaches both introductory and higher-level physics courses and specializes in geophysics and radio emissions.
