Mike Harrity will lead Big Green athletics as the Haldeman Family director of athletics and recreation starting on July 18, the College announced on Wednesday. Harrity, who comes to Dartmouth after working as the deputy athletics director and chief operating officer for Army West Point for two years, will manage Dartmouth’s 35 Division I athletics teams, in addition to club sports, physical education, recreation, fitness and intramural programs.
The College will shift toward take-home rapid antigen tests for tracking the spread of COVID-19, it announced in an email to campus on Thursday. Accordingly, the College will end take-home and in-person PCR testing after June 11, before ending in-person antigen testing after June 13.
The fraternity previously known as Kappa Kappa Kappa, or Tri-Kap, has changed its name to the Kappa Pi Kappa Society, according to a May 18 statement obtained by The Dartmouth. Longtime Collis Cafe employee Donna O’Gara died at home on Monday, April 11, according to an email from College president Phil Hanlon and a Valley News obituary. She was 64 and surrounded by family at the time of her death.
Dartmouth offered admission to 1,767 applicants — 1,207 of whom were admitted during the regular decision process — to the Class of 2026 from a pool of 28,336 applications, according to an announcement from the admissions office on Thursday evening. The acceptance rate of 6.24% is among the lowest in the College’s history.
The Student Worker Collective at Dartmouth will become a recognized union following a unanimous vote among student workers today, almost three months after they formally announced their intention to unionize. The SWCD was only required to meet a 50 percent support threshold from student worker voters to be successful. This vote will make SWCD the fifth recognized undergraduate union in the country, according to their Twitter account.

Interim provost David Kotz ’86 can drop the “interim” from his title: The College announced today in a campus-wide email that Kotz has been appointed provost, effectively immediately. He has served as interim provost since July 2021, when former provost Joseph Helble left to become president of Lehigh University, and also worked in the role from Oct. 2017 to Oct. 2018.

After a decade in charge, College President Phil Hanlon will step down effective June 2023, he wrote in an email to campus today.
On Jan. 12, the College announced a new universal need-blind admissions policy, expanding its existing practice to include international students. Applicants from abroad will now be evaluated under the same process as U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
Biology professor Elizabeth Smith has been reappointed as dean of the faculty of arts and sciences for a second five-year term, the College announced in a press release on Tuesday.
