It’s never too early to start thinking about basketball season. While professional basketball is already in the full swing of preseason and is caught up in a scandal with China, the infinitely more exciting college basketball season has something even better: ongoing scandals!

Another week, another big win for the Big Green.
Homecoming weekend has come and gone, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how perfect the weather was that weekend. As far as I can remember as a sixth-year (yeah I’m old), this is the only time Homecoming has aligned so perfectly with the changing leaves. It’s important to take a moment to reflect on what’s important to you and take time to ensure your mental health is in order. I recently caught up with an old friend of mine in the Class of 2018 who made it up for Homecoming, and it was refreshing to have a conversation with her outside the realm of the Dartmouth bubble. Take the time you need to ensure that you’re happy — that’s all that’s important.
Dartmouth women’s soccer started off a three-game road stretch by splitting its two games this week, with a 4-0 win over Merrimack College on Tuesday and a tough 3-1 loss to Ivy League opponent Yale University over homecoming weekend.
Women’s rugby (2-2) defeated Quinnipiac University (2-4) Saturday afternoon by a score of 52-38 to close out its regular season 15s competition. After two consecutive losses in recent weeks to perennial rival Harvard University and emerging force United States Military Academy, Big Green rugby was able to rebound and provide a special Senior Day and Homecoming victory.
With just over two weeks remaining until the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, the Dartmouth men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Boston this Saturday to compete in the New England Championships.
Bad bounces, poor calls, missed opportunities. While sports are frequently focused around the positive achievements of an individual or team, it’s often luck and randomness that can play a heavy hand in the outcome of a game.

With an explosive first quarter and a career-high 203 receiving yards from wide receiver Drew Estrada ’20, Big Green football trounced Ivy League preseason favorite Yale University by a score of 42-10 on Homecoming weekend, giving head coach Buddy Teevens ’79 his 100th win at the helm of the program and earning Dartmouth the STATS FCS team of the week recognition.
The best birthday present Eric Sachleben ’23 received this year was the one he gave himself: a game-winning goal against the reigning Ivy League champions.
Women’s rugby fell to the undefeated United States Military Academy at home Saturday afternoon, 39-19. After a season opening routing of Brown University, the Big Green faced two tough competitors in Harvard University and Army and ultimately fell to both. Despite the loss, the 2018 national champions have shown progress since their first loss of the season two weekends ago to Harvard.
After making national headlines last year as the first female full-time NCAA Division I football coach, Callie Brownson has joined the Buffalo Bills as a full-time offensive coaching intern. Her stint at Dartmouth, albeit brief, not only earned her the respect of players and coaches alike, but also spearheaded efforts towards the inclusion of women in the sport.

We’re four weeks into the 2019 National Football League season and the narratives are already popping up around the media. After all, four data points is more than enough to make definitive statements regarding the state of a team this year, right? Nothing is ever set in stone. For example, the Los Angeles Rams were undefeated going into Sunday with a win against the 2018 NFC runner-up New Orleans Saints; the Rams would lose 55-40 at home against the 1-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Kansas City Chiefs were undefeated and putting up massive points going into Sunday. They would barely beat the often-overlooked Detroit Lions (now 2-1-1) in a game where Pat Mahomes threw zero touchdown passes. The Miami Dolphins even had the lead at one point against the Los Angeles Chargers. Anything can happen!
On Saturday, the field hockey team matched up against No. 10 Princeton University in its first game of Ivy League competition this season and walked away with a 4-0 loss. The next day, the Big Green responded in force with a 4-3 overtime win against the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

On a bright Saturday morning after tough races against Yale University and Boston University, the rowing community at Dartmouth gathered for the dedication of a newly-improved team facility: the Friends of Dartmouth Rowing Boathouse. Presided over by Dartmouth’s director of athletics, Harry Sheehy, the ceremony was centered around appreciation for those alumni who built the program and made these renovations possible, as well as the opportunities it opens for the future leaders of Dartmouth rowing.
