To the Editor:
I am increasingly disturbed by Ilya Feoktistov '06's penchant in his article for fomenting racial and religious disharmony and encouraging an atmosphere of fear in the midst of our Dartmouth community ("Allahu Akbar and a Bang," Jan. 11). This article did well in its repeated efforts to alienate and single out both Arabs and Muslims, especially at an hour when America and the world needs religious tolerance, understanding and dialogue.
While Mr. Feoktistov does a great disservice to the efforts of many in our community who believe in building the "bridges" of tolerance and dialogue, and while it is unfortunate that we have to tolerate the extreme views of individuals such as Mr. Feoktistov, I am grateful that our community at Dartmouth is both an open-minded and balanced one and that, for the most part, his opinion will go unnoticed.
