Rested men swimmers drown in weekend's road meets

Dartmouth men's swimming fell to both Yale (193-95) and Penn (173-125) in a double-dual meet on Saturday. The very talented Yale squad and the Penn team, who tapered for the meet (clearly because they received the message sent from the window to the wall two weeks ago), proved too much for the travel weary Big Green.

Once again, seniors Thomas Sanford, who won the 100 and 200 breaststokes and took second in the 200 IM, and Ryan Goldhahn, who took first in the 50 free and second in the 100 free, led Dartmouth's nautical attack.

Of their efforts, Justin Neiman '06 said, "Their milkshake is better than yours."

Also claiming victories for the Big Green were Peter Laidlaw '07 and Evan Sparks '07 in the 1000 free and 1-meter diving, respectively.

After the meet, the swimmers retired to their hotel for the evening. When asked how the team planned to prepare to face Princeton the following afternoon, Graig Peterson '05 responded, "Nothing, we'll be chilling at the Holiday Inn. Jim got us rooms with huge beds. It's really nice. I just plan on getting a lot of rest so I can be fresh for the meet tomorrow."

Despite the comfortable beds there, Dartmouth fell to Princeton 167-114 on Sunday.

Sanford, again, was a double winner, taking the 50 breaststroke in 26.90 seconds and the 100 individual medley with a time of 52.32 seconds. Laidlaw (1,000 freestyle), junior Michael Hipps, (50 backstroke) and Sparks (one-meter diving) also won events for the Big Green.

Hipps was unavailable for comment due to inclement weather conditions.

The Big Green, 3-4 overall, 2-4 EISL, travel to Army for a meet on Saturday, Jan. 31.
