Lewis Black is here -- and man, is he angry

You'd better watch out, you'd better not cry, you'd better not pout, I'm telling you why: Lewis Black is coming to town, and if he catches you doing any of the above he's going to make you pay.

The comedian of Comedy Central fame will be prowling the Spaulding Auditorium stage tonight, armed to take on pompous, self-righteous, whiny, petty and just plain stupid people in the public eye, just as he's done for decades as a stand-up comedian. He's best known for his weekly "Back In Black" segment on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," and is actually the program's senior member, the only one left from the days when Craig Kilborn hosted the show.

Over the past few years, his live shows have become equally popular. He has had two "Comedy Central Presents" specials, and in 2001 he won the Funniest Male Comic and Viewers' Choice Awards at the American Comedy Awards.

But what a lot of people don't know is that Black is also a highly trained actor and playwright, a graduate of the Yale School of Drama. Since his days in New Haven, he has gone on to have a prolific thespian career, working with Woody Allen in "Hannah and Her Sisters," appearing alongside Tim Robbins in "Jacob's Ladder" and making guest appearances on such television series as "Mad About You," "Law and Order," "Homicide: Life on the Streets" and "The Murphy Brown Show." Additionally, Black has authored some 40 plays that have been produced worldwide including "The Deal," which the Sundance Channel adapted for the screen.

Tonight's show is one of many stops Black will be making on a nationwide tour of college campuses and comedy clubs. Expect a rock concert atmosphere tonight as this one-man wrecking crew of comedy takes the stage. Showtime is 8 p.m., and seating is general admission. At press time, there were still tickets available at the Collis information desk.
