Fall Squash Yields Successful Harvest

Both Dartmouth squash teams began the winter campaign in style, with the men soaring to a 3-0 record, and the women taking their first match of the season. Each squad has a mix of new recruits and seasoned veterans, a combination that will hopefully bring success not only this season, but in years to come.

On November 17, the men blanked Navy 9-0, led by freshman Ryan Donegan, who earned a convincing victory out of the No. 1 spot. On the same day, the men's team handed Denison a 7-2 defeat. The following day, the men's squad garnered an 8-1 victory off Franklin and Marshall, winning each match 3-0, save for sophomore standout Andrei Prokopiw's, a tough 3-0 defeat.

The women picked up where the men left off at Franklin and Marshall on November 18, when they showed great poise in an 8-1 victory. Eight of the Dartmouth players recorded convincing 3-0 victories. Only the No. 1 player, Charlotte Haldeman '03, faltered, losing her match 3-0.

After those contests, both teams took a break from match play for finals and winter break. Both teams have high expectations for next season, and each squad boasts some excellent returning players, notably senior captain Sarah West and senior Hamed Anvari. In addition to those senior standouts, each team has great depth, especially with the addition of blue-chip prospects Ryan Donegan and Kelly Sennatt.

Both squads are eager to get on the court and continue their winning ways at Williams on Jan. 9.
